Millennial pop princess Janah Zaplan makes it a point to prioritize herself first above all. She finds it imperative to commune with her innermost feelings and thoughts, and feeds on the power of self-preservation.
“Self-love can be different every day. Self-love can be with yourself for some time. Self-love can be with your family, enjoying your company with them,” she started off. “For me, self-love is not an easy thing to get. It is a journey that you should explore, you should enjoy.”
“It is about exploring your own self, your growth. You can be happy; you can be sad; you can be anything that you are,” the StarPop artist said. “Through that, I’m sure you’re going to know more about yourself and you’ll be the woman that you are in the future that you wanted to become.”
Through the pop track “I LUV U,” also, which she launched last February, Janah aimed to convey a message to the listeners. She is making a case for self-awareness and self-actualization.
Composed by Angelica Tagadtad and produced by StarPop Label Head Rox Santos, the creation, according to Janah, turns away from the standard love song formula of falling in love and being in love.
“This song is something siguro na iisipin n’yong typical love song that you would sing to another person but actually, no. It has a twist in the middle. It is a reminder for you to say ‘I love you’ to yourself and it is a story about self-discovery and having that courage to break free from a cycle of situation or relationship that you’re in full of weariness or complacency.”
In between series-binging, traveling, and spending time with her family and fur family, Janah, 21, is well-aware of what she wants in life. Besides her love for singing and performing, the songstress also studies aviation science.
“Well, in reality, I wanted to become one because of the income that a pilot gets. But also, I was really inspired when we started traveling. I see pilots using the airport as their runways and they’re looking so posh, so sleek, so respectable,” she shared in an interview with Metro.Style.
“I wanted to become that kind of person. And of course, kumbaga for me, parang comfort zone ko na ’yung ere, e, after kong makapag-fly talaga. And it’s just amazing to see someday na madala ko ’yung mga pasahero from point A to point B, seeing their faces so happy when they see their families du’n sa mga destinations na pupuntahan namin.”
A dreamer who is downright enchanted by the exquisite beauty of South Africa’s flora and fauna and Finland’s aurora, Janah wishes to travel the world someday and hatch songs and more albums as her music evolves.
“I would love to explore R&B, actually, because of its vibe. And I think the groove that it has is sakto sa voice ko, I guess. So maybe some time in the future, I’ll be able to explore more of R&B,” she told us during our talk.
Juggling her entertainment job and practice as a future pilot, Janah is enthusiastic about her career aspirations and whatever surprise is in store—both in music and beyond. “I will record a new song for sure and I’m manifesting an album soon. Sana, sana! Hopefully, everything goes well and the stars will align.”
